I have been asked why I switched from conventional lighting to LED. To answer this in simple terms, cost, power requirements and setup time. With conventional lighting you need lots and lots of electricity, power distributions, cables and dimmer racks. With LED lighting you only need a 15 to 20 amp outlet to run a good sized show. No dimmers are needed and the setup time is quick. I have run 20 plus light fixtures and a haze machine on one outlet and it was shared with the house DJ system!
 

LED lighting never needs bulb replacement and most fixtures have a life rating of 50,000 hours or more! No gels are needed for color and you can use far less fixtures to get the same effect. With RBG LED's the sky is the limit on the color palette available for your show. Add in a few RGBAW fixtures and there is hardly a color you cannot create.

The downside to LED lighting is the initial cost. LED PAR fixtures are not cheap when selecting a quality fixture. On the other hand you don't have to buy expensive dimmer packs to run LED fixtures, so when you do the math, LED is more cost effective and will last for thousands of hours in use.
